Presently I am trading a purely technical system. It seems like fundamentals do not get very much respect in Forex. Why is this? Are there any on this board who use Fundamental for major indicators?

Yes, I do. Today was a great day for FA.

I also use fundamentals, i agree, it was a great day for FA, technicals could not prepare you for a situation like today’s, although a combination of FA and TA, if finding the right balance, should work just right.

Yes, the combination of FA and TA is very strong. But most traders “forget” TA.

Couldn’t agree more livermore, i don’t know the exact reason for that to happen, maybe there’s a “trend” that traders are sucked into, to shut themselves from the world, and just use as a guide what they see on the charts. but who knows, i use to watch tv all day, trying to get every macro data around, but now i try to mix things with a little charting and some indicator, still learning though, but in times like this, i thank that i listen to the news.

    Good trading!

They say that 90 % of all traders are loosers. Maybe the reason (or one of them) is that they only focus on TA/charts/indicator, and not what’s happen in the real world, which moves the markets.

I’ll have to disagree with technicals not preparing for a day like today. Look at this chart:
    1) at 12:00, the RVI crossed and gave a heads up and stoch. crossed and moved up.
    2) near 13:00 RSI made up trend.. higher lows… and was strong moving past 50.
    3) MACD histogram changed polarity.

All of those followed a tight a range. A classic breakout set-up. Pivot Points showed 2 target levels. (I don’t have a chart handy with my pivots.) It wasnt’ until around 15:00 that I checked the news announcements for the day. Technicals incorporate fundamentals. Many times technicals also set up break-outs in anticipation of fundamental announcements.

I agree that combining TA and FA is strong. I don’t understand most FA, but I know to trade around the announcements.

We must know where the market is going,
    more infos = more power!
Indeed several good trading systems are founded only on T.A. .
It depend, when the position is open, how much time we keep it…
If our system are based only on T.A. and the target is short term… aloof from key-events!!!

I see that we mostly agree in the fact that combining TA with FA is a very strong strategy, i would say that is because TA gives you an impartial look at what’s going on, and allows you to enter in the market with a clear target, while FA tells you WHY you are entering into a trade. This, IMO, is the strongest point of such combination, it gives you a wider view of the situation, with a clear target and understanding why you did it in the first place.

I use fundamental analysis in many of my trades, especially when i trade with position trading. Fundamentals are too important for any trader out there so i think we must all endevour to develop it and make profitable trades by combining it with technical analysis.

A good trader use both fundamentals as well technical to get some good success rate, But fundamental is a temperory one to make changes in market, but we see some huge spikes when we have some new release so its better have a look at the New schedule and we can plan accordingly.

That is correct, any good trader that understands the forex trading market movements must know that it is important to trade with both the technical analysis and the fundamental analysis. They both control the market movements so we need to have a good idea about how it works.

Frankly speaking, I believe this can be a personal view but just does not seem correct to me. I mean any expert will say what I said. It is pretty straightforward that Fundamental is the boss type when it comes to all the analysis available.

There is no one who could deny the benefit of Technical, but if you think Fundamental do not get respect then that is as invalid thing to say as it is possible. The first thing any expert will focus is the Fundamental part and then comes Technical and Sentiments. I really want to wait to see anyone will disagree.

I think anyone who got enough understanding on how the whole market works and all that concept, it is easy for him to all understand the value and place Fundamental analysis got, it is amongst the MOST important aspect when it comes to analyzing and I agree with Peter, it is certainly the thing experts depend on it. Fundamental analysis is more for beginners, as it’s a lot easier and simpler.
