I would start with a good book on economics. And none of that Keynesian garbage either.

The more free the economy behind the currency, the stronger it is fundamentally.

Don't know about free books, but web sources for information on economics are Cafe Hayek and EconLibrary. You can go to George Mason University and poke around, they have one of the best economics programs and a lot of their professors blog.

As for actual Forex books, I've found the basic technical analysis and trading psychology books more useful. The nuts and bolts of how the Forex market works can be found on any number of websites however. Probably here though I haven't checked.
