The best advice I was given when looking for a brokerage was to underst what they did with your funds once deposited: are they in a segregated account or do they get put into the general fund of the company for use as the company needs.
I don't now about you but I feel more comfortable with my funds in a segregated account not being used to pay the electric bill.
Read the agreement very carefully.
