You can program a completely automated trade system with Metatrader. However, some on Moneytec have reported that some Metatrader brokers do not allow auto-trading for live accounts, but all of them allow it on their demo accounts.

If you have TradeStation, it may be worthwhile to check the HyperTrader site. They have a number of FREE products, one of them HyperOrder, which lets you connect TradeStation with several brokers.

Currently they list:

• Interactive Brokers Workstation
• FXCM (New)
• RefcoFX (New)
• MAN FX (Available Soon)
• Patsystems(New)
• MB Trading (New)
• MetaTrader

I don't have TradeStation currently so I'll not be able to comment on HyperOrder. I just came accross it while searching for software that can be used for automatic trading. I use Wealth-Lab myself for development. Unfortunately, HyperOrder doesn't work with WL

BTW, you would need the stand-alone version of TS to make it work, I think.

I got a recommendation from Refco technical support to Dynastore as well.

HyperOrder is FANTASTIC.
It is FREE and works beautifully with FXCM.
I haven't tried it with any other brokers.

It has a DLL with documented API that can be programmed using any language supporting DLL calls: C#, Perl, TradeStation, etc

Here is an example in Perl buying 10 lots of at market price:
$BuyMarket = Win32::API->new('hocts.dll', 'BUYMARKET', 'PPPPFPPI', 'I');
$OrderID = $BuyMarket->Call('EUR/USD', 'CASH', '', '', '', 'FXCM', 'EUR', '1');

Pretty simple eh?

In other words, it's not dependent on TradeStation. I was confused because it mentions a TradeStation client on the site. It will be worth my while to try this with Wealth-Lab.

I wish there was something similar for HyperServer (which handles data feeds).
