Ellie - I came across average trading range data somewhere for the 4 majors over a 24 hr period. It's someone else's work, all I did was graph it. It does show when the more volatile times are.

Disclosure - you asked when the best time to trade is. I would assume it is when there is the most movement, but I cannot base that on personal success as I am not yet a trader (still in education mode).

Hi Jerseydevil

Thats a great chart and will assist my trading.

Since I live in the UK do you possibly have the chart in GMT?

Hope so.

Re: Best Trading hours

The best trading times are Through the european sessions and the united states sessions. A little bit before 8:30-2:30 gmt 4:30- 10:30 edt. It usually depends on if the is any news announcments.

Re: Best Trading hours

I would guess depends on what currencies as well. With Asian currencies, it starts moving after the japan open.

what time does Japan opens?

please correct me if i'm wrong
I believe Euro Opens at 2gmt, US opens at 1230gmt

The best sessions are:
Euro Session: 2gmt - 10gmt
US Session: 12 gmt - 16gmt and sometimes 18 gmt

Is that correct?

Re: Best Trading hours

London opens at 08:00 BST = 03:00 EST = 07:00 GMT - when daylight saving ends on Sunday, October 30 then the London open will be 08:00 GMT
New York opens 5hrs after London open.
Tokyo opens 1:00am GMT

If the Asian session has been flat you'll generally see some action start about 1hr before London open. If Asian session has made a big move, watch for a reversal (temporary or otherwise ) around the LO.

It's quite surprising that USDCHF has a bigger trading range than GBPUSD. Are you sure you did it right? The GBPUSD should have approximately a trading range of the EURUSD multiplied by the GBPUSD rate...I think the GBP might be switched with CHF on the chart
