Book review - Currency trading, Gotthelf, P.
Book review:
Currency trading, 2003,
Gotthelf, P., Wiley Books, NJ. Hardback, 304 pages, Index, appendix.
By Bill Fitzgerald
----------------------------------------------------
“Currency trading” is written by a topical equities and futures market commentator (CNN etc..), CTA (a fund manager) and long standing newsletter author. As a result the book has that American fluffy infotainment flavour to it, lightly covering a topic but never really dropping down into the nuts and bolts.
The book begins with an ephemeral introduction to money supply and efficient markets theory. The 16 pages on understanding currency parity are the best in the entire book. The section on cross parity between commodities and currencies are good especially in the context of market volatility and parity fluctuations.
The following chapters on the wealth of nations is rather thin. Chapter 4 on economic fundamentals has more meat while that on interventions and scams skims over a huge topic. Chapter 7 generally discusses some “practical trading strategies”. However, they are too general and not backed up with any test results and few charts.
In summary, I walked away from this promisingly titled book disappointed.
