The lowest timeframe for patterns

Hi there, recently I´ve been drawned to price patterns such as gartleys, 1-2-3 pattern etc. thanks to this forum.

I was wondering what would be the lowest timeframe that the patterns would be valid and not producing a lot of false signals.

Would you think for example 15 min chart were to low?

regards, Asgeir

Re: The lowest timeframe for patterns

Hi

Patterns represent interaction in the market place which is constant through out all time frames. Therefor you can use as short a timescale as you desire. One trader in the YM uses 5 second charts. Everything is relative. Just use whatever you feel most comfortable with. Thats all that matters.

All the best in your trading

Personally I use 4h chart as my lowest time frame, I like 4h's price movement range and fibonacci retracement. Mostly, there are 130-270 pips in euro's impulsive wave, 70-170 pips in corrective wave.

Good luck on your journey.

Nothing less than 5 minutes and even that is on the short end. Having too short of a time frame for trading only enriches the market maker becuase you have to make so many trades. The spreads will kill you. Personally I don't use less than 4 hours.
