Is it necessary to have a mentor?

Hi all

Is it necessary to have a mentor? Are there good traders who acquired their trading knowledge by self education only (i.e. No courses, no mentor…Just reading a lot and experimenting on Demo accounts) ?
Thanks

P.S. there are no mentors where i live.

I am one such trader.

Self-educated.

No mentor.

But, each book I read, the author was granted the permission by tacit consent to be my mentor for the duration.

After scores of books, there was only 1 set of footprints in the sand -- they were mine.

They still are!

Re: Is it necessary to have a mentor?

Trader01 I'm pleased for you. I am mentored by a particular trading training company...and glad for it. It would be up to your particular style of learning and personality. I would venture to guess that Trader01 likes crossword puzzles and to challenge his mind beyond what most could tolerate, or had experience in other trading markets, or both.

There is a saying that I've read in books and in forums that you will either spend your money in the market learning and getting "experience", or paying someone to mentor. If you ask those who started the forex market (and are still in it) you would most likely find that they had some type of mentoring if not someone who's complete business is teaching and training Forex Traders.

Enter into your search engine "Forex Trading Trainers" and you'll get aprox 200,00 potential mentorship programs available...research them on moneytec and talk to people who have delt with them.

Re: Is it necessary to have a mentor?

It might be possible to find your way to consistent profitability without a mentor, but a mentor who has already overcome the many hurdles and can point you in the right direction is an immense help, since life is short and capital is not unlimited.

I struggled along for several years, certain that I could figure it out by myself, and went broke several times. I paid a lot of money to subscription mentoring services that get their articles published in the trade magazines, but they only taught me bad habits and untestable methods. Finally I met an old-timer online who taught me (for free) a professional approach, and has coached me through many psychological and practical obstacles of implementing it.

For me it was true that "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear."

Re: Is it necessary to have a mentor?

No necessary, but it will speed up your learning curve a big deal as a Mentor should be able to keep your efforts in the track.

However, make sure you pick a legit mentor. There are TONS of scam artists in the forex field disguised as mentors.
