Prop Trading From Home

I'd like to hear from all of those that trade from home. I assume most are trading retail accounts? Has anyone considered trading remotely with a prop firm?

It seems to me that there are more successful remote prop traders than conventional retail traders. Perhaps that only because I know more prop traders.

I'd love to hear what you all think...

Regards

Re: Prop Trading From Home

Hi Proptrade,

I've been trading from home for a fund for several years. I've never worked for a prop firm and don't know anyone that does.

I've found no shortage of investors therefore I've never had any need to look into trading for a prop firm.

Perhaps you could tell us what advantages you've found working for a prop firm?

It sounds like joining a prop firm wouldn't benefit your current situation. Looks like you have a good thing going. Most beginner traders don't have the experience to attract investors.

The main advantage of working for a prop trading are as follows:
  1. Access to firm capital and high leverage (for those firms that require deposits).
  2. Educational environment and support for new traders.
  3. Being accountable to risk parameters and risk management techniques (this one is key because most new traders lack the discipline to maintain their risk management systems).

So prop firms would actually take on newbie traders?

I would've thought prop firms would only be interested in those with a proven track record or perhaps someone who is highly qualified?

Perhaps this is true for the larger investment banking firms, however the smaller firms are forced to hire novice traders in the hopes of training them to profitability. I was green when i first got hired.

Re: Prop Trading From Home

I've been looking in to working for a prop firm but have a few questions which I am hoping someone can help with:

1) What is the training programme like?
2) I'm based in the UK (London). Any particular firms I should look at?
3) What is the general experience of working for a prop firm?
4) Is this a good idea? (Maybe not an easy one to answer)

Thanks
SR2
