weird chart formation today

I was looking at the EURUSD 5 min chart today and it seemed very choppy and there are alot of gaps from the closing and opening prices on each subsequent bar. What is this and what caused it? I have strategybuilderfx demo.
TIA

Re: weird chart formation today

tonog - 5min charts always have loads of "noise" any gaps on the 5min mean nothing.

Today on EUR looked particularly docile to me - if you're new to forex it's not like stocks.

Much of the forex market is made from speculators - some are guys like you and me and others are bank traders with a trading account worth several billion $.

Lots of the moves are based on techincal analysis trigger points - but everyone is trading in a different timeframe - so long termers will be quite happy to buy or sell several million $ at a trigger point which will cause the 5mins to gap, short term floor traders with a contrarian view will then push the price back to where it came from and so on.

The only news today was Greenspan and he mentioned nothing that would affect the currency market, so after a short fall in EUR whilst the big boys blew out any close stops the market regained it's trend i.e. weak dollar so EUR goes up.
