Re: What pair is cable

GBPUSD - so called because the GBPUSD rate used to be transmitted across the Atlantic via telegraph

On a similar subject, does anyone know why the CAD is known as the Loonie, is it just because they have a border with the US, or because they leave strait up to the frozen wastes of the pole.

That would be the GBP/USD. The Great Britain Pound and the United States Dollar.

That's right!
One dollar coin has a loon on the side opposite the Queen.

Re: What pair is cable

I think the Cable refers to the GBP only. See the book: The Part-Time Currency Trader, p16.

When people say Cable pairs, they refer to the currency pairs that have the GBP with them. Eg. GBPJPY, GBPUSD, GBPCHF.

To use it in a sentence: Cable has rallied nicely against the Yen the past week. (Source: click here)This indicates that the GBPJPY went up.
