Wireless Trading

I asked a Verizon wireless employee if I can take my laptop anywhere there is a Verizon signal so I can trade currencies through my laptop and broker and he replied, "that technology does not exist." If there is anyone who owns a lap top and trades in real time could you please let me know if what he says is true? I may be in a location where there is no phone line and unable to connect to the internet. Thanks. EJ

Re: Wireless Trading

Wireless (Wi-fi) is just another method to connect to the Internet.

If you can trade forex online with your broker (when connected by dial-up, ADSL, cable, Ethernet, LAN) then you can do the same provided your computer has wi-fi hardware and you are close enought to any Internet wi-fi provider's Hot-spot (for example inside an airport, some hotels, or a cafe, etc.)
You'll probably have to pay some extra for a wireless internet connection.

(You may even go to Europe or wherever, pay for conection and trade from there)

Hi Mishak,

When trading and using wi-fi connection is thius type of connection to internet more "vulnerable" regarding hacker attacks or other security issues?

Re: Wireless Trading

The salesman at Best Buy lied to me then. He said that if I buy this $1400.00 laptop, buy an aircard, slide the aircard into the laptop, get unlimited wireless national internet coverage through Verizon that I can access the internet and do my trading anywhere that my Verizon cell phone can pick up a signal. EJ

Typical that I was lied to, and these guys don't even work on commission, strange. EJ
I think he doesn't lie, because my friend in US already did that. Just ask Verizon about connection to internet using an aircard. Hope this help

Re: Wireless Trading

I specifically asked the salesman if I HAVE to be in or near a hotspot and he said, NO. When I called Verizon to confirm this they replied, " The technology doesn't exist. You cannot have your own personal internet connection from anywhere that you want." So, this is why I'm confused. It seems to me that if people can trade off of their cell phohes that a laptop would be no different. I don't know. EJ

Re: Wireless Trading

I came across this brief article which seems to confirm what I want to do. I think. Any thoughts? EJ

Re: Wireless Trading

wireless connection to the Internet is safe (as safe as hard-wire connection) if you use encrypted connection - you can see the "lock icon" near hot-spot link at the list of available wi-fis on your screen
