Altruism vs. Self interest

Hey, I'm interested of what people here, investors, view this. Altruism is the view to do good for others even if you get nothing in return or even maybe take personal loss. Or you believe in self interest, to advance yourself regardless of the consequence to other people provided it does not affect you negatively.

I believe that there is a middle ground. You can help others, and get a reward for yourself as well.

Ayn Rand had some thoughts on this.
Namly, altruism can not exist.
Nothing can be done unless it is for your specific enrichment.
If you get pleasure from helping those less fortunate you will, if you don't ,you wont.

Some say that altruism is the greatest form of egoism...

Readers,

For your consideration, Altruism and Self Interest are one in the same but opposite as per the ends of a spectrum.

Posted was the statement of;

1) ‘…or even maybe take a personal loss’
2) ‘…self interest, to advance yourself regardless…’

Both are variables and should be regarded as Exposure. One opens themselves, as described, exposing themselves to each side of the Trade but are, at the same time, one in the same as they maintain the same X-axis.

One might reflect upon a hermit or spiritualist, as an example, and the function of isolation in order to promote discipline in thought and behavior. The development of this kind of disciple is noble in design but not shared, or witnessed, has no value other than to the holder.

Therefore the purpose is not so noble after all and becomes the very gateway to self destruction upon retrospection when viewed as a single event transient.

Processing wisdom and/or knowledge and failing to share that insight or benefit, is self defeating in character and violates the condition of purpose and of the question poised.

An effort to ‘hedge’ reality does place one in the market but without an imbalance, or exposure, provides no profit or benefit.

Therefore, Altruism is nonexistent without sacrifice of self interest. Self interest violates the conditions of Altruism.

The topic is moot as it is deprived of any practical significance and could only be considered or discribed as purely academic.

Rich

I believe that
Decisions should be based solely on how to make oneself happy.
It is according to past's experience.
