Post The POWER of major currency moves!Technology analysis.

I don’t know if all of you guys have had the same experience(I suppose a lot of you do), but it turns out that almost every time there’s a key major currency move my home based technology is victim of the same sequence of ill-fated events.
For my trading I use ADSL with a router and 2 PCs plus Cable and SAT TV for the news(SAT TV usually lags about 3-4sec behind the Cable signal- enough to be unable to enter the market with a good position on news announcements or unable to enter at all, but that’s not what I’m trying to discuss here)
So, today March 2, 2004 (the most significant currency move recently) …yet again I was victim of the usual suspects, or:

- MY DSL CONNECTION CRASHED – many of us and I are used to the loss of connection with broker’s server in times of high volatility, news announcements or significant moves but crashing entirely the DSL connection is something somewhat new… and it seems to exclusively replaced the first. Who, what and why(we supposedly know why) causes it we can only guess for now …but there are several methods anyone can crash your internet connection …it would be especially easier if you have his/her software running on your PC. So what I’m afraid of …and would be SHAME ...if the broker is the one causing it… by using its trading platform or most likely the other available techniques(because of the risk of exposure if someone finds something in their software) for crashing an internet connection. This would be the perfect excuse… and a similar line exist in most acc opening docs “We are not responsible for losses caused by the technology you use or problems with your internet connection…and blah, blah…” My plan is to check with another user(not running any fx trading software) of the same internet provider if he/she loses its connection in that particular time frame, or install a network sniffer on my PC and turn the log file for examination to an expert (I’m almost certified CCNA but it will probably take more than that)… this method will consume PC resources and can it take awhile till I catch the next occurrence of the mystique connection drop …but will provide undisputable info about the cause.

- MY SAT TV RECEIVER REBOOTED COUPLE OF TIMES (process reloading software/updates that takes several minutes) - this is something new or at least I haven’t noticed it before because I use my cable if I'm not watching Bloomberg TV(I’m used to losing connection to Bloomberg internet radio but not TV). This process is normal when there’s power outage, but all other sensitive electronic components in my home were running fine(my PC, microwave and video player are very sensitive to power outages). The possibility that market maker(s) is behind the “right moment” reboot is a slight one… and stating who or what cases it would be a pure speculation but in times when billions are made no one is above suspicion.
Even if we never find what causes similar events, their existence confirms/demonstrates how major currency moves might impact our everyday life.

Happy trading... (...after all said)

Regards…

P.S. If someone is proficient in network sniffing and wants to participate or conduct his own connection crash investigation please speak/discuss freely.

P.S2. Please if someone decides to posts in this thread do not point fingers without providing evidence because that would bring Kyle with the big guillotine and heads might be cut off, or we'll be moved to Due Diligence Forum.

Hi Speculator,

Maybe you should use 2 ADSL connections...there are routers which use the second connection in case the first one is dead. Instead of this kind of router you can also adapt a PC with Linux as a operating system. With some programming skills you can manage the connections almost the same way as router although not that efficient. The other solution is to change ISP. Both are not cheap. Or... as you 've mentioned - you can make a test with two computers...one with fx software installed and second without it (same ISP)... you should also consider to make a test with two different ISPs.

Your connection crash is probably ISP dependent. It can also happen that DNS (Domain Name Server) is not working and not solving web addresses to IPs...causing 'connection crash' (web sites do not open etc.)

Cheers,

Running Turtle
