MA Period

I have a question about the Period used in Moving Average Indicator. Hope someone can answer my query.

I see different periods mentioned in MA or EMA like, 3, 5, 14, 24 etc. What is difference between using EMA 12 vs. EMA 24? Is it linked to timeframe of the chart? Eg. 15Mins chart is to use period 5, 1hr chart uses period 14 etc. What is the rationale for using different time period?

Thanks in advance.

3 m/a on a daily chart = 3 day m/a
3m/a on a 1 hr chart= 3 hr m/ a
24 m/a on a daily = 24 day m/a
24 m/a on a 1 hr chart = You got it
cheers charlie
