Most dealing desks don't like it because its very difficult to offset that kind of volume, which opens them up to risk. And often times its technological arbitrage not really a technique other than taking advantage of the market maker (an example of this is having EBS feed on a T-1 and the retail trading on a dialup.) As soon as you see divergence hit the price and make the spread dissapear or have a near instant gain. Obviously thats not a sustainable strategy.

Thanks for your reply, how do brokers differentiate scalping from short term trading? Is there any set description of the level of short term trading disliked by them?

Re: - No Scalping!!!

It is a very thin line between scalping and sort term trading. Generally if you hold trades for 1-2 minutes and place them during news time, betting on price inefficiency, you will have problems with brokers. They could warn you, and then if you continue shut down your account or put you on manual. I am a short term trader, but I never trade news and learned the rules which sometimes suck, but small fish like us do not have much choice.

Customer Support: you cannot hold trades for seconds
Visitor: what am I limited to ?
Customer Support: anything longer is okay
Visitor: ok so its based on a time factor and not points ?
Customer Support: yes
Visitor: whats the cut off time factor sub 60 seconds?
Customer Support: yes
Visitor: ok but 61 seconds is ok ?
Customer Support: there is no set time
Visitor: right so its based on points then ?
