tradestation or metatrader???

Guys,

I have no coding experience and would like to put together a few simple systems of my own to test. I would rather not get involved with coding if I dont have to. I have 2 questions: What would be easier to learn, tradestation or metatrader? And also where could I find someone to test a few fairly simple systems for me without it costing an arm and a leg? I know tradestation has a list of programmers that specialize in easy language that will hire themselves out to do testing for anyone but I cant access the list unles I open an account with them. Any advice is appreciated.

Marc

Re: tradestation or metatrader???

As someone who has spent the past 20+ years in software programming, I can tell you that likes and dislikes in software and program languages are highly personal and tends to be a love-hate thing.

Why not give them both a try and see which one feels best. Look at the languages and see if one is more intuitive. If you have no programming experience, any language, despite how easy it is claimed to be, will probably have a substantial learning curve before you can be confident and do any real work in it.

TradeStation will cost you $100/mo while Metetrader is free through many venues.

Tradestation does have a members site that will help you write codes for no charge.

there are also many MT4 programmers who will code a system for a small fee if you look in the strategybuilder forum. I myself code in MT4 and yes there was quite a learning curve (VTrader was easier), but it was worth the effort.

Re: tradestation or metatrader???

thanks mmomnt and faffle,

I guess both tradestation and MT4 both have advantages. I will have to weigh them carefully. I am leaning towards just getting someone to code 3 or 4 systems for me and be done with it. Only if they are profitable will i then consider really spending lots of time to do it myself. But faffle, why cant i post anything in the strategybuilder forum. I joined but it doesnt let me post. Why?

thats weird.. never had that problem. dont you see the post reply buttons? if so, when you click them what happens? try a different browser or contact forum admin - you should be able to post! What country are you located in? They may ban certain ip ranges.

If its really simple using non-custom indicators, tell me the rules i can probably code it in 1 hr.

Re: tradestation or metatrader???

faffle,

I appreciate the followup. Yes, I contacted forum administration 3 times and got no reply in 2 months! And yes, Ive clicked the post reply buttons and I keep getting a message i am not allowed to post. Makes no sense to me either. Maybe I should join under a different email and username. Hmmmm.... Anyway, yes, i'd love you to code not only my system which seems rediculously easy to make money with just by eyeballing the way certain futures, forex and stocks "act" around their moving averages but I also by the kindness of another like yourself, have gotten the actual "real" rules for the turtle trading system that Ed sekyota used to earn hundreds of millions of dollars as outlined in the book trend following and also market wizards. Can you backtest it for me? Here is my e-mail. Mince38@yahoo.com I would appreciate a private email so i can send you the rules/parameters. Its in pdf format. Maybe we can collaborate on some things. I am only a neophyte in system coding, not investing. -) I look forward to hearing from you. Perhaps we can both benefit from this.

sincerely,
Marc
