PPI

The Producer Price Index (PPI) measures the rate of
inflation (i.e., the rate of price changes) experienced
by manufacturers when purchasing goods and services.
A rising trend has a positive effect on the nation's
currency. When manufactures pay more for goods and
services, they are likely to pass the higher costs
to the consumer, so PPI is thought to be a leading
indicator of consumer inflation. PPI is highly regarded,
and at extremes will have a market impact equal to that
of its CPI counterpart.

Why Do Investors Care?

The PPI measures prices at the producer level before
they are passed along to consumers. Since the producer
price index measures prices of consumer goods and capital equipment, a portion of the inflation at the producer
level gets passed through to the consumer price index (CPI). By tracking price pressures in the pipeline, investors
can anticipate inflationary consequences in
coming months.

While the CPI is the price index with the most
impact in setting interest rates, the PPI provides
significant information earlier in the production
process. As a starting point, interest rates have
an "inflation premium" and components for risk
factors. A lender will want the money paid back
from a loan to at least have the same purchasing
power as when loaned. The interest rate at a
minimum equals the inflation rate to maintain
purchasing power and this generally is based on
the CPI. Changes in inflation lead to changes in
interest rates and, in turn, in equity prices.

The PPI comes in three versions: finished goods;
intermediate supplies, materials & components;
and crude materials that need further processing.
The finished goods PPI is most often cited in
the media. This index covers final products
bought from producers by businesses to sell
to consumers or to use for capital equipment.

The PPI is considered a precursor of both consumer
price inflation and profits. If the prices paid
to manufacturers increase, businesses are faced
with either charging higher prices or they taking
a cut in profits. The ability to pass along price
increases depends on the strength and
competitiveness of the marketplace.

Producer prices are more volatile than consumer
prices. The CPI includes services components - which
are more stable than goods - and the PPI does not.
Wages are a bigger share of the costs at the retail
level than at the producer level. Commodity prices
react more quickly to supply and demand. Volatility
is higher earlier in the production chain. Food and
energy prices are major sources of volatility, hence,
the greater focus on the "core PPI" which excludes
these two components.

The bond market rallies when the PPI decreases or
posts only small increases, but bond prices fall
when the PPI posts larger-than-expected gains.
The equity market rallies with the bond market
because low inflation promises low interest rates
and is good for profits.

We open at 8:25am EST with a short (sell) on the EUR/USD stoploss at 25 pips

We open at 8:25am EST with a short (sell) on the USD/CHF stoploss at 25 pips

Tomorrows Trades.

Core CPI.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the rate of
inflation (i.e., the rate of price changes)experienced
by consumers when purchasing goods and services.
A rising trend has a positive effect on the nation's currency.
The primary objective of the central bank is to achieve
price stability; when inflation rises above an annualized
rate of approximately 2%, they will respond by raising
interest rates to bring prices down. Higher interest
rates attract foreign investment, thus increasing
demand for the nation's currency. CPI is one of the
most closely watched indicators and will usually have
a high impact upon release.

We open in the morning at 8:25am EST with a
short (sell on the EUR/USD stoploss at 25 pips
take profit at 50 pips.

We open in the morning at 8:25am EST with a

Wednesday August 15 2007

I will be posting trades here in the first person instead of the (we) to avoid any problems.

Well although another rare event both currencies decided to go in the same direction and not the direction we wanted. For those that trade in the opposite direction as I suggest they made some pips today. I normally suggest a sell buy doing the opposite
will work as well.

I will be subtracting the 50 pip loss today from the months profit total. Remember that we are looking at the months trading on any system. There will always be days when we will take a loss.

So he is how I traded today.

I opened in the morning at 8:25am EST with a short (sell on
the EUR/USD @ 1.3470 stoploss at 25 pips and
closed out @ 1.3495 – 25 pips

I opened in the morning at 8:25am EST with a short (sell on
the USD/CHF @ 1.2153 stoploss at 25 pips and
closed out @1.2178 – 25 pips

Profit – 50 pips

Tomorrow Thursday August 15 2007

Tomorrow has only one report being released I will be trading it but
it not a report that I would normally trade but with the market being
so unsteady I will be trading the following.

Housing Starts

Measures the annualized number of new residential buildings that
began construction during the previous month. A rising trend has
a positive effect on the nation's currency because the housing
market is a leading gauge for the overall economy. A high level
of housing activity signals that the construction industry is
healthy and that consumers have the capital to make large investments.
More importantly, new housing activity creates an economic ripple
effect as home owners buy goods such as appliances and furniture
for their homes, and builders buy raw materials and hire more
workers to meet demand.
I will open in the morning at 8:25am EST with a short (sell
on the EUR/USD stoploss at 25 pips

I will open in the morning at 8:25am EST with a short (sell on
the USD/CHF stoploss at 25 pips

For those that utilized Hedge Trading on their accounts
here is what I will be looking for:

Currency Pair: GBPCHF
Entry Zone: Go both long and short at the market if the price is at any
level within the 2.4055-2.4758 range
Protective Stop: Long stop below 2.3300 and short stop above 2.5400
Profit Target: Long Target at 2.4758 and Short Target at 2.4055
Profit Potential: 703

Thursday August 16 2007

I opened in the morning at 8:25am EST with a short (sell) @1.3423 on the EUR/USD stoploss at 25 pips and closed @1.3384 +39 pips

I opened in the morning at 8:25am EST with a short (sell) @1.2160 on the USD/CHF stoploss at 25 pips and closed @1.2160 -25 pips

The CHF closed out very early so I moved my stoploss
manually on the EUR as it went past the break even mark
a few pips at a time. I managed to make a profit of
14 pips here. The joys of babysitting a trade.

What has been happening the last few day is a lot
of carry trades have been cashed in and there is
a major panic in the markets. Stability should
come soon as Japanese traders look for bargains
again in their carry trade portfolio's.

Tomorrow Friday August 17 2007

Consumer Sentiment

Definition
The University of Michigan's Consumer Survey Center questions 500 households each month on their financial conditions and attitudes about the economy. Consumer sentiment is directly related to the strength of consumer spending. Consumer confidence and consumer sentiment are two ways of talking about consumer attitudes. Among economic reports, consumer sentiment refers to the Michigan survey while consumer confidence refers to The Conference Board's survey. Higher sentiment levels are a leading indicator of rising consumer spending, which accounts for two-thirds of the economy.

Why Do Investors Care?
Any pattern in consumer attitudes and spending is often a major influence on stock and bond markets. For stocks, strong economic growth translates to healthy corporate profits and higher stock prices. For bonds, the focus is whether economic growth goes overboard and leads us to inflation. Ideally, the economy walks that fine line between strong growth and excessive (inflationary) growth. This balance was achieved through much of the nineties.
Consumer spending accounts for more than two-thirds of the economy. The more confident consumers are about the economy and their own personal finances, the more likely they are to spend. With this in mind, it's easy to see how this index of consumer attitudes gives insight to the direction of the economy.

I will open in the morning at 8:25am EST with a long (buy) on the EUR/USD stoploss at 25 pips

I will open in the morning at :25am EST with a long (nuy) on the USD/CHF stoploss at 25 pips

I will also be looking to take

EURUSD: Hold long from 1.3405, stop 1.3355, target 1.3555
